Academician Program Goes to the Grassroots | The "Thousand Counties, Ten Thousand Villages Initiative" Demonstration Site Established at Wushan County Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine

On October 17, the unveiling ceremony for the demonstration site of the "Thousand Counties, Ten Thousand Towns Plan," a three-step sequential therapy for rheumatism and pain led by Academician Liu Liang's Expert Workstation, was held grandly at Wushan County Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Attendees included Li Yanping, Deputy Director of Academician Liu Liang's Expert Workstation; He Zhiguo, Project Promotion Director; Fu Wenjun, Gansu Regional Project Manager; Wei Qiancheng, Director of the Pain Department at Gansu Provincial Third People's Hospital; You Zhixia, Director of the Pain Department at Tianshui City Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine; Wang Liming, Party Secretary and Director of Wushan County Health Bureau; Liu Tianming, Deputy Director of the bureau; representatives from member units of the county-level medical consortium; and more than 200 grassroots medical staff.
The event was chaired by Xue Zhaolin, Party Secretary of Wushan County Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Academician Liu Liang, joining via video link, emphasized that the core of the "Thousand Counties, Ten Thousand Towns Plan" is to bring the "simple, convenient, affordable, and effective" triad sequential therapy for rheumatism and pain directly to grassroots levels. By adopting a collaborative and synergistic model, the initiative aims to facilitate the dissemination of advanced medical technologies and foster local talent development—ultimately ensuring that scientific and technological innovations genuinely benefit people's daily lives at the community level. He also noted that the workstation will continue providing ongoing technical guidance to support the successful implementation of the project, employing a structured approach that combines "theoretical lectures, hands-on clinical training, and case-based discussions," thereby helping the hospital cultivate a dedicated team of skilled professionals committed to serving patients in county-level areas and promoting the standardized adoption of this innovative treatment method.
Wang Liming, Director of the County Health Commission, stated that Wushan County Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, as the core institution for primary healthcare services in the county, has always been committed to addressing the challenges of "difficult and distant access to medical care" faced by local residents. The implementation of this "Thousand Counties, Ten Thousand Towns Initiative" demonstration site will bring cutting-edge TCM diagnostic and treatment technologies, as well as top-tier talent development resources, to Wushan County. This initiative will help establish a regionally recognized specialty center specializing in rheumatic pain, enabling residents across the county to receive high-quality medical services from an academician-led team right at their doorstep.
At the launch ceremony, Mr. Li Yanping, Deputy Director of Academician Liu Liang's Expert Workstation, and Mr. Wang Liming, Director of Wushan County Health Commission, jointly unveiled the plaque for the "Academician Liu Liang Workstation's Thousand-County, Ten-Thousand-Village Demonstration Site."
Liu Tianming, Deputy Director of the County Health Commission, and Li Hongdong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the County Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, jointly signed cooperation agreements with the workstation, clearly outlining specific goals and implementation strategies for technology promotion, talent development, and specialized department building—thus laying a solid institutional foundation for future work.
At the event, team experts also delivered lectures titled "The Past and Present of the Tri-Sequential Therapy for Rheumatism and Pain" and "Treatment of Postherpetic Neuralgia with Berberine Injection Combined with Fascial Tension Release Techniques," followed by interactive sessions. Grassroots-level doctors enthusiastically commented, "These techniques are practical and directly applicable—easy to learn and immediately useful!"
After the ceremony, the team conducted an on-site调研 at the hospital’s specialized outpatient clinic and treatment area for rheumatic pain, carefully assessing the diagnostic and therapeutic needs of grassroots patients. They provided guidance on spot to optimize the clinical workflow, while also carrying out clinical teaching rounds and technical training sessions.
The establishment of the Liu Liang Academician Expert Workstation as a "Demonstration Site for the Thousand Counties, Ten Thousand Towns Initiative" at Wushan County Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine will provide strong support for upgrading primary healthcare services in Wushan County and surrounding areas, profoundly enhancing the public's medical experience and elevating the region's overall health security standards.
