The guidance meeting for the Academician Liu Liang Expert Workstation and the Hunan Provincial Innovation Center for Technological Advancements in Modern Traditional Chinese Medicine Manufacturing Processes was held successfully.
On the afternoon of May 24, the guidance meeting for the Academician Liu Liang Expert Workstation and the Hunan Provincial Innovation Center for Technological Advancements in Modern Traditional Chinese Medicine Manufacturing Processes was successfully held in Huaihua. Academician Liu Liang of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Distinguished Professor at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, and Director of the National Key Laboratory of TCM Syndromes, led an expert team to provide on-site guidance. Attendees included relevant officials from the Huaihua Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, the High-tech Industrial Development Zone, and the Municipal Association for Science and Technology, as well as leaders and researchers from Hunan University of Chinese Medicine and the Zhengqing Group. The meeting was chaired by Wu Feichi, Director of the Academician Liu Liang Expert Workstation, Director of the Hunan Provincial Innovation Center for Technological Advancements in Modern Traditional Chinese Medicine Manufacturing Processes, and Chairman and President of the Zhengqing Group.
At the meeting, Professor Liu Jianxin, Dean of the School of Pharmacy at Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, presented two key research advances. The first was titled “Research on the Metabolites and Biological Activities of Symbiotic Streptomyces Associated with Qingfengteng Based on Spectral Features and Genomic Information,” which systematically outlined the findings—obtained by leveraging the local medicinal resource of Qingfengteng in Huaihua—and the subsequent technical roadmap for identifying bioactive metabolites from symbiotic microorganisms using multi-omics approaches. The second presentation, “Progress in mPGES‑1 Inhibitor Research,” provided a detailed account of the team’s interim breakthroughs in the development of novel anti‑inflammatory and analgesic drugs targeting this specific pathway, along with prospects for clinical translation.
Academician Liu Liang and the attending experts highly commended the two research projects and offered precise guidance on key issues, including overcoming technical bottlenecks, optimizing experimental protocols, and fostering deep integration among industry, academia, and research. The expert panel emphasized the need to fully leverage Huaihua’s rich medicinal‑plant resources and the Zhengqing Group’s strengths in industrial translation, aligning efforts with the core objectives of upgrading pharmaceutical manufacturing technologies for traditional Chinese medicine and advancing innovative drug development. They also called for strengthening the coordinated synergy between fundamental research and industrial applications, and accelerating breakthroughs in critical core technologies as well as the practical implementation and commercialization of research outcomes.
Concurrently with the conference, a plaque‑presentation ceremony was held for the International mPGES‑1 Drug Research Center at Hunan University of Chinese Medicine. Professor Zhou Hua, Deputy Director of the Guangdong Provincial Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine and of the Guangdong Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, presented the plaque, while Zhou Jinhao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, accepted it on behalf of the institution. The establishment of this center will create a high‑level platform for international collaborative research and development, bring together leading scientific expertise from both home and abroad, accelerate the advancement of innovative mPGES‑1 inhibitor‑based therapeutics, fill the gap in our province’s high‑end research infrastructure in this field, and provide crucial support for China’s independent innovation in the area of anti‑inflammatory and analgesic drugs.
The convening of this project guidance meeting has further clarified the research roadmap and development trajectory of Academician Liu Liang’s Expert Workstation and the Hunan Provincial Innovation Center for Technological Advancements in Modern Traditional Chinese Medicine Manufacturing, while deepening the collaborative innovation mechanism among universities, local authorities, and enterprises. Moving forward, all parties will continue to pool their strengths to foster the deep integration of TCM‑related scientific and technological innovation with industrial development, thereby providing a core contribution to Huaihua’s efforts to build a distinctive TCM‑focused industrial cluster and to supporting Hunan Province’s drive to become a leading province in TCM.
