Academician Project Goes to the Grassroots | The “Thousand Counties, Ten Thousand Towns” Demonstration Site Established at Wulong District Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital

To further promote the integration of high-quality traditional Chinese medicine resources into grassroots healthcare settings and enhance the standardized diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic and pain-related conditions at primary-level medical institutions, the kick-off meeting for the demonstration site under Liu Liang’s “Academician Project to the Grassroots—Thousand Counties, Ten Thousand Towns Initiative,” along with a training workshop on the promotion of appropriate TCM techniques organized by the Wulong District Medical Association, was successfully held at the Wulong District Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from March 27 to 28, 2026. The event was hosted by the Wulong District Health Commission and co-organized by the Wulong District TCM Hospital and the Wulong District Medical Association.

The expert panel of Academician Liu Liang’s workstation, leaders from the Wulong District Health Commission, relevant medical professionals from all healthcare institutions across the district, all members of the Wulong Branch of the Chongqing Academic Department of Beijing Hanzhang Needle-Knife Medicine under the Wulong District Medical Association’s Specialized Committee on Needle-Knife Medicine, all trainees of the National Inheritance Studio of Renowned Veteran Traditional Chinese Medicine Expert Chen Runlin, and all staff members of the Wulong District Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine attended this event.

This event, centered on “promoting appropriate traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) techniques and enhancing primary‑care diagnostic and treatment capabilities,” is structured into two main components: project launch and technical training. The program combines rigorous theoretical insights with practical, hands‑on guidance, precisely addressing the clinical needs of grassroots healthcare settings. On the morning of March 28, a grand kickoff meeting for the demonstration‑site construction was held. Shen Huaping, Party Secretary of Wulong District TCM Hospital, delivered a welcoming address, extending warm greetings to all the experts and colleagues in attendance. He emphasized that the hospital will seize this opportunity to deepen the dissemination of appropriate TCM techniques, thereby elevating the diagnostic and therapeutic standards for rheumatic and pain‑related conditions at the primary‑care level.

At the meeting, a promotional video for the “Thousand Counties, Ten Thousand Towns Initiative” was screened, and He Zhiguo, Project Director of Academician Liu Liang’s Expert Workstation, provided a detailed briefing on the initiative’s progress, enabling attendees to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project’s background and development plan.

At the launch event, the Academician Liu Liang Expert Workstation signed cooperation agreements on bringing academician‑led projects to the grassroots level with the Wulong District Health Commission and the Wulong District Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, and held a plaque‑awarding ceremony for the demonstration site under the “Academician Projects to the Grassroots—Thousand Counties, Ten Thousand Towns Initiative.”

Zeng Fanling, a leader of the Wulong District Health Commission, and Li Yanping, deputy director of the Academician Liu Liang Expert Workstation, delivered remarks one after another, both expressing high expectations for the development of the demonstration site. They expressed hope that this collaboration would serve as a catalyst to advance research and clinical care in the fields of rheumatology and pain management.
