To further promote the delivery of high-quality traditional Chinese medicine resources to the grassroots level and enhance the standardized diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic and pain-related diseases in primary healthcare institutions, the kickoff meeting for the establishment of a demonstration site under Liu Liang’s “Academician Project Goes to the Grassroots—Thousand Counties and Ten Thousand Towns Initiative,” together with a training workshop on the promotion of appropriate TCM techniques organized by the Wulong District Medical Association, was successfully held at the Wulong District Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from March 27 to 28, 2026. The event was hosted by the Wulong District Health Commission and co-organized by the Wulong District TCM Hospital and the Wulong District Medical Association.

The expert panel of the Academician Liu Liang Expert Workstation, leaders of the Wulong District Health Commission, relevant medical professionals from all healthcare institutions in the district, all members of the Wulong Branch of the Acupotomy Medicine Special Committee of the Wulong District Medical Association and the Chongqing Academic Division of the Beijing Han Zhang Acupotomy Institute, all trainees of the National Inheritance Studio of Renowned and Veteran Traditional Chinese Medicine Experts Chen Runlin at the grassroots level, and all staff of the Wulong District Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine attended this event.

Centered on the theme of “Promoting appropriate traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) techniques to enhance primary-care diagnostic and treatment capabilities,” this event is structured around two main components: project launch and technical training. The content strikes a balance between theoretical depth and practical guidance, precisely addressing the clinical needs of primary-care settings. On the morning of March 28, the inaugural ceremony for the establishment of the demonstration site was held with great fanfare. Shen Huaping, Party Secretary of Wulong District TCM Hospital, delivered a welcoming address, warmly greeting the attending experts and colleagues. He emphasized that the hospital would take this demonstration-site initiative as an opportunity to deepen its efforts in promoting appropriate TCM techniques and to elevate the diagnostic and treatment capabilities for rheumatic and pain-related conditions at the primary-care level.

During the meeting, a promotional video for the “Thousand Counties and Ten Thousand Towns Initiative” was screened, and He Zhiguo, Project Director of the Academician Liu Liang Expert Workstation, provided a detailed briefing on the initiative’s progress, enabling all attendees to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project’s background and development plan.

At the launch ceremony, the Academician Liu Liang Expert Workstation signed cooperation agreements on the “Academician Projects to the Grassroots” initiative with the Wulong District Health Commission and the Wulong District Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, and held a plaque-awarding ceremony for the demonstration sites under the “Thousand Counties, Ten Thousand Towns Initiative” for bringing academician-led projects to the grassroots.

Zeng Fanling, leader of the Wulong District Health Commission, and Li Yanping, deputy director of the Academician and Expert Workstation led by Academician Liu Liang, delivered speeches one after another, both expressing high expectations for the development of the demonstration site and hoping that this collaboration will serve as a catalyst to advance research and clinical practice in rheumatology and pain management. Triple Sequential Therapy As cutting-edge technologies take root in Wulong, local residents will be able to enjoy high-quality traditional Chinese medicine services right at their doorstep.

During the training session, Professor Xia Yinping, a lecturer from the Academician Workstation, served as the core instructor and delivered a systematic presentation on key topics, including the basic theory of pain, the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis and peripheral neuropathic pain, and the three-pronged sequential therapy for rheumatic diseases and pain. She also conducted live demonstrations of clinical techniques, enabling participants to gain a more intuitive understanding and master the essential technical skills. The learning atmosphere was highly engaging, with content closely aligned with primary-care clinical settings and exceptional practical value. Attendees unanimously agreed that the training was packed with substantive, actionable information, deepening their systematic knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic and pain-related conditions while enhancing their hands-on proficiency in appropriate TCM techniques, thereby providing robust technical support for their future clinical practice.

The successful organization of this event not only marks the official establishment of the demonstration site for Liu Liang’s “Academician Project to Bring Research to the Grassroots—Thousand Counties and Ten Thousand Towns Initiative” at the Wulong District Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in Chongqing, but also creates a high-quality platform for academic exchange and technological dissemination in TCM. This has effectively enhanced the capacity of primary-care medical personnel in Wulong District to deliver TCM services, laying a solid foundation for standardizing diagnostic and treatment protocols for rheumatic and pain-related conditions and for promoting the high-quality development of TCM across the region. Moving forward, the Academician Liu Liang Expert Workstation will continue to promote and apply appropriate TCM technologies, accelerate the training of TCM professionals at the grassroots level, ensure that the research achievements of the academician benefit local communities, and leverage the distinctive strengths of TCM to safeguard public health.
